Oily skin is a skin type in which the sebaceous (oil) glands produce more sebum (natural oil) than the skin needs. Sebum helps protect and moisturize the skin, but when too much is produced, the skin appears shiny and is more likely to develop clogged pores.
Characteristics of oily skin
- Shiny appearance, especially on the forehead, nose, and chin (the T-zone).
- Enlarged pores, particularly around the nose and cheeks.
- Skin may feel greasy a few hours after washing.
- Makeup may wear off or become patchy quickly.
- More likely to develop blackheads and whiteheads due to clogged pores.
- May be acne-prone if excess oil mixes with dead skin cells and bacteria.
